Dr. Deidre Gifford is the Chief of Health Policy and Programs at Quality Partners of Rhode Island. She is an obstetrician/gynecologist who directs the health information technology and physician office initiatives for the Rhode Island Quality Improvement Organization. Dr. Gifford’s background is in Epidemiology and Health Services research, particularly in the area of quality measurement and quality of care for adults. She is a former faculty member of the UCLA School of Public Health, UCLA School of Medicine, and Brown Medical School. She currently directs programs aimed at improving care delivery in the ambulatory setting, in particular in the areas of primary care, using information technology to enhance quality, and care process re-design. She is a co-investigator on the Rhode Island State and Regional Demonstration in Health Information Technology, and Clinical Director of the Rhode Island “Doctor’s Office Quality – Information Technology (DOQ-IT)” initiative, with responsibility for training and recruiting physicians to integrate IT into their clinical practices. Dr. Gifford is currently the Project Director for the Rhode Island Regional Quality Initiative, co-leading a statewide multi-stakeholder process aimed at aligning reimbursement for improved delivery of ambulatory chronic care.
