Nancy Piper Jenks

Nancy Piper Jenks, family nurse practitioner, has practiced in the field of primary care since 1983. She has lived and worked on four continents, including 3 years in West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer, 2 years practicing at CIWEC Clinic in Nepal, and 2 years as a research fellow at the WHO Center for the Prevention and Control of Viral Hepatitis in Antwerp, Belgium. She joined Hudson River Community Health in 1988, and is currently the site director of Internal Medicine in Peekskill. She has participated in a number of initiatives over the years, including the Diabetes Health Disparities Collaborative, an initiative organized by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, to improve the quality of diabetes care in community health centers. At Hudson River Health, she is site director of the GeoSentinel project, an international sentinel network, looking at health issues among travelers and immigrant populations. She has expertise in the area of travel medicine, and prepares many patients for international travel. She served for 6 years on the executive board of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM). Ms. Jenks has published in the peer-reviewed medical literature on topics including Hepatitis E, enteric fever and Lyme disease in migrants. She has co-authored several chapters in medical textbooks in areas including economics of travel medicine, migrant medicine and hepatitis A and E. She serves on the faculty of travel medicine courses and presents regularly at national and international conferences. At Hudson River Community Health, she precepts nurse practitioner and medical students for clinical rotation in primary health care.
